dn32:6.1 Where sets the sun—
dn32:6.2 Aditi’s child, the great orb—
dn32:6.3 with whose setting
dn32:6.4 the day also ends;
dn32:6.5 and of whom, when sun has set,
dn32:6.6 it is said to be night’s umbra—
dn32:6.7 there is a deep lake in that place,
dn32:6.8 an ocean of flowing waters.
dn32:6.9 That’s how they understand that lake there,
dn32:6.10 as an ocean of flowing waters.
dn32:6.11 From here that is the western quarter,
dn32:6.12 so the people say.
dn32:6.13 That quarter is warded
dn32:6.14 by a great king, glorious,
dn32:6.15 the lord of the dragons;
dn32:6.16 his name is Virūpakkha.
dn32:6.17 He delights in song and dance,
dn32:6.18 honored by the dragons.
dn32:6.19 And he has many mighty sons
dn32:6.20 all of one name, so I’ve heard.
dn32:6.21 Eighty, and ten, and one—
dn32:6.22 all of them named Indra.
dn32:6.23 After seeing the Awakened One,
dn32:6.24 the Buddha, Kinsman of the Sun,
dn32:6.25 they revere him from afar,
dn32:6.26 the one great of heart and intrepid.
dn32:6.27 Homage to you, O thoroughbred!
dn32:6.28 Homage to you, supreme among men!
dn32:6.29 You examine us skillfully;
dn32:6.30 the non-humans bow to you.
dn32:6.31 We’ve been asked many a time,
dn32:6.32 ‘Do you bow to Gotama the victor?’
dn32:6.33 And so we ought to declare:
dn32:6.34 ‘We bow to Gotama the victor,
dn32:6.35 accomplished in knowledge and conduct!
dn32:6.36 We bow to Gotama the awakened!’
