dn32:5.1 It’s where the departed go, they say,
dn32:5.2 who are backbiters and calumniators,
dn32:5.3 killers and hunters,
dn32:5.4 bandits and cheats.
dn32:5.5 From here that is the southern quarter,
dn32:5.6 so the people say.
dn32:5.7 That quarter is warded
dn32:5.8 by a great king, glorious,
dn32:5.9 the lord of the gnomes;
dn32:5.10 his name is Virūḷha.
dn32:5.11 He delights in song and dance,
dn32:5.12 honored by the gnomes.
dn32:5.13 And he has many mighty sons
dn32:5.14 all of one name, so I’ve heard.
dn32:5.15 Eighty, and ten, and one—
dn32:5.16 all of them named Indra.
dn32:5.17 After seeing the Awakened One,
dn32:5.18 the Buddha, Kinsman of the Sun,
dn32:5.19 they revere him from afar,
dn32:5.20 the one great of heart and intrepid.
dn32:5.21 Homage to you, O thoroughbred!
dn32:5.22 Homage to you, supreme among men!
dn32:5.23 You examine us skillfully;
dn32:5.24 the non-humans bow to you.
dn32:5.25 We’ve been asked many a time,
dn32:5.26 ‘Do you bow to Gotama the victor?’
dn32:5.27 And so we ought to declare:
dn32:5.28 ‘We bow to Gotama the victor,
dn32:5.29 accomplished in knowledge and conduct!
dn32:5.30 We bow to Gotama the awakened!’
