dn32:4.1 Where rises the sun—
dn32:4.2 Aditi’s child, the great orb—
dn32:4.3 with whose rising
dn32:4.4 night’s umbra also ends,
dn32:4.5 and of whom, when sun has risen,
dn32:4.6 it is said to be the day—
dn32:4.7 there is a deep lake,
dn32:4.8 an ocean of flowing waters.
dn32:4.9 That’s how they understand that lake there,
dn32:4.10 as an ocean of flowing waters.
dn32:4.11 From here that is the eastern quarter,
dn32:4.12 so the people say.
dn32:4.13 That quarter is warded
dn32:4.14 by a great king, glorious,
dn32:4.15 the lord of the centaurs;
dn32:4.16 his name is Dhataraṭṭha.
dn32:4.17 He delights in song and dance,
dn32:4.18 honored by the centaurs.
dn32:4.19 And he has many mighty sons
dn32:4.20 all of one name, so I’ve heard.
dn32:4.21 Eighty, and ten, and one—
dn32:4.22 all of them named Indra.
dn32:4.23 After seeing the Awakened One,
dn32:4.24 the Buddha, Kinsman of the Sun,
dn32:4.25 they revere him from afar,
dn32:4.26 the one great of heart and intrepid.
dn32:4.27 Homage to you, O thoroughbred!
dn32:4.28 Homage to you, supreme among men!
dn32:4.29 You examine us skillfully;
dn32:4.30 the non-humans bow to you.
dn32:4.31 We’ve been asked many a time,
dn32:4.32 ‘Do you bow to Gotama the victor?’
dn32:4.33 And so we ought to declare:
dn32:4.34 ‘We bow to Gotama the victor,
dn32:4.35 accomplished in knowledge and conduct!
dn32:4.36 We bow to Gotama the awakened!’
