KENALI DUNIA DN 23

dn23:33.1 Now at that time Venerable Gavampati would often go to that empty sirisa palace for the day’s meditation.

dn23:33.2 Then the godling Pāyāsi went up to him, bowed, and stood to one side. Gavampati said to him,

dn23:33.4 “Sir, I am the chieftain Pāyāsi.”

dn23:33.5 “Didn’t you have the view that

dn23:33.6 there is no afterlife, no beings are reborn spontaneously, and there’s no fruit or result of good and bad deeds?”

dn23:33.7 “It’s true, sir, I did have such a view.

dn23:33.9 But Master Kassapa the Prince dissuaded me from that harmful misconception.”

dn23:33.10 “But the student named Uttara who organized that offering for you—where has he been reborn?”

dn23:33.11 “Sir, Uttara gave gifts carefully, thoughtfully, with his own hands, not giving the dregs. When his body broke up, after death, he was reborn in company with the gods of the thirty-three.

dn23:33.12 But I gave gifts carelessly, thoughtlessly, not with my own hands, giving the dregs. When my body broke up, after death, I was reborn in company with the gods of the four great kings, in an empty sirisa palace.

dn23:33.13 So, sir, when you’ve returned to the human realm, please announce this:

dn23:33.14 ‘Give gifts carefully, thoughtfully, with your own hands, not giving the dregs.

dn23:33.15 The chieftain Pāyāsi gave gifts carelessly, thoughtlessly, not with his own hands, giving the dregs. When his body broke up, after death, he was reborn in company with the gods of the four great kings, in an empty palace of sirisa.

dn23:33.16 But the student Uttara who organized the offering gave gifts carefully, thoughtfully, with his own hands, not giving the dregs. When his body broke up, after death, he was reborn in company with the gods of the thirty-three.’”
