Dalam khotbah ini, Sang Buddha menjelaskan konsekuensi serius dari salah menyatakan status pelanggaran dalam disiplin monastik. Para bhikkhu yang menyatakan bukan pelanggaran sebagai pelanggaran, atau sebaliknya, serta salah mengklasifikasikan berat-ringannya pelanggaran, dianggap merugikan banyak orang, menghasilkan keburukan, dan menyebabkan Dhamma sejati lenyap. Sebaliknya, mereka yang menyatakan pelanggaran sesuai dengan kenyataannya akan membawa kesejahteraan, menghasilkan kebajikan, dan menegakkan Dhamma.
